This beautifully captured photo of the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse was taken in Texas by my colleague and astrophotographer extraordinaire, Rod Chang. One of the best things about belonging to the Organization for Professional Astrology, is to know folks like him and share their work.
I began my Astrology Gems of Wisdom by pointing out that from Earth´s perspective, the Moon appears the same size as the Sun, and therefore has the same astrological importance. And here is proof of that remarkable fact, and the sacred geometry of our Solar System, where the Sun is magnitudes larger than the Moon but also the perfect further distance away to create a portal like the one experienced in totality in the Northeastern Americas.
During eclipses, Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned. Eclipses happen in pairs, the Lunar Eclipse of March 25 in Libra, together with this Solar Eclipse in Aries, highlight the axis represented by these two signs: the sign of the Peacemaker and the sign of the Warrior. Does this remind you of what is happening on Earth right now?
The Solar Eclipse was also remarkable because it was exactly conjunct Chiron, a planetoid (a Centaur, really) that represents the archetype of the Wounded Healer, posing the question: What do we need to collectively heal right now, even as we struggle with our own individual wounds?
We begin to explore the Trauma Healing journey by naming each trauma reaction and its corresponding healing response.
We continue exploring different types of oppression, including internalized oppression, and we acknowledge that the best place to start our liberation journey is within.
We complete the tour of Spiritual Geography, and we define shamanic power, which is not power over others, but the self discipline to have power over ourselves.
I pray that in responding to the opportunities and questions posed by the Libra-Aries Eclipses, we learn to make peace, not by avoiding conflict, but by entering into the difficult conversations with courage and in alignment with our deepest ethical principles. May we have the wisdom to find a way through.
